Diabetes Diet Programme
Diabetes is a chronic condition that causes your blood glucose (or blood sugar) levels to rise too high. These high blood glucose levels can cause damage to your body in different ways, and diabetes makes you more likely to have heart disease or a stroke.
It is of three Types:
Type 1 Diabetes – is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas which is usually diagnosed in children and young adults .
Type 2 Diabetes – is the most common form of diabetes where the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough insulin.
Type 3 Gestational Diabetes – type occurs during pregnancy which usually disappears after giving birth. However, it increases the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life.
How it works?
- Autoimmune destruction – It targets immune system and destroys the beta cells of pancreas which are responsible for production of insulin.
- Insulin deficiency – Due to the destruction of beta cells of pancreas, insulin production reduces and eventually leads to inability to regulate the blood glucose levels.
- Hyperglycemia – Without insulin the glucose remains in the blood and leading to increase in the glucose levels as it cannot enter the cells.
- Ketogenesis – Due to the absence of insulin, the body breaks down fat for energy production and causes diabetic ketogenesis (DKA).
Family History , Obesity , High BP , abnormal cholesterol level , women with PCOS , poor diet , smoking etc are the very common factors of developing high risk of diabetes . Regular check-ups, a healthy diet, physical activity, and maintaining a healthy weight are crucial in reducing the risk.
