Fatty liver disease, or hepatic steatosis, is a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver. This condition is increasingly common and is often associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic disorders.

1. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) type is most common chronic liver disease occurs in people who drink little or no alcohol.
In case of NAFLD, due to obesity causes Excess body fat, especially around the abdomen, or poor dietary or genetic variations or due to malnutrition impairs free fatty acids into the bloodstream. The liver converts these fatty acids into triglycerides, leads to fat buildup within liver cell.
In case of AFLD, excessive alcohol intake produces toxic by-products that can damage liver cells and promote fat deposition.
Fatty liver progresses to cirrhosis
- Fat molecules seen as droplets
- Then the nucleus pushed to the sides of the cell
- These deposits of fats causes cells to enlarge
- This leads to cell injury
- Which makes the liver hard and does not function properly

Risk Factor
Obesity, High Cholesterol and Triglycerides ,genetics, Sedentary Lifestyle, poor diet , alcohol consumption are the common factors leading to serious fatty liver disease .
Fatty liver disease can progress:
- Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis
- Alcoholic Hepatitis
- Can cause Jaundice
- This disease in more common in diabetes
